Washington — (WMAL) First Lady Melania Trump announced on Tuesday that the White House will be resuming tours on March 7 after more than 7 weeks of shutting its doors.

“I am excited to reopen the White House to the hundreds of thousands of visitors who come each year. The White House is a remarkable and historic site and we are excited to share its beauty and history,” the first lady said.

The White House has been known to stop tours during the transition of power between Presidents, however this transition has been considered especially long. It takes time for the first lady to hire a new staff and Melania Trump has been slower to do so as she lives in New York with her son, Baron Trump.

People who want to go on a tour must submit a tour request through their member of Congress 21 days prior to the day they wish to go. Tours are scheduled on a first come, first served basis and as there are limited seats available, people are encouraged to submit their requests up to 3 months before.
