Chris Plante Staff vs NPR – On the numbers

It’s an issue we’ve talked about on the Chris Plante show many times, the sheer amount of Staff at NPR vs The Chris Plante Show.

As some of you know, we have Three people in total who work on our show.  Chris Plante says the words via his mouth, Mike McKay plays the music and keeps Chris in front of a microphone, and Michael Piercey answers phones and pulls audio.

Three.  It’s the magic number.

However for NPR that’s a laughably small group to produce any content.  Let’s take a look at the show 1A, which replaced Diane Rehm locally.  That show is two hours long, and yet it boasts a staff of NINE people, plus the host.

This past week Chris talked about the NPR show ‘Here and Now’, another two hour show, but it needs a staff of TWENTY people, that’s including the hosts AND A RESIDENT CHEF!

NPR’s two-hour Morning show, Morning Edition, is a real powerhouse though.  They have a staff of TWENTY TWO people, plus three hosts.  And they’re HIRING!

But take a look at that staff page.  Such a large staff they needed an aerial shot!  When Chris Plante saw that today he couldn’t wait to grab a camera and assemble the crew for OUR staff shot.

So here’s the enormous staff of the Chris Plante Show.  We put out THREE hours of radio, five days a week.  With three whole people

Michael Piercey, Chris Plante, Mike McKay.  And you aren’t even paying for it with tax dollars.

And we have No tote bags for you.
