LISTEN: Attorney General KEN PAXTON: Trump’s Border Wall is a Worthy Cause for Eminent Domain

Listen as Larry spoke with Attorney General Ken Paxton about Texas’ Senate Bill 4, a bill permitting law enforcement to question anyone’s immigration status.

During the interview, Attorney General Paxton addressed eminent domain in relation to President Trump’s border wall:

O’Connor: A border wall is certainly going to impact the state of Texas more than any other state in the Union. What is going to happen when the areas where that border wall is built infringes on local land owners rights or state of Texas rights? There may be some conflict there. Have you studied this? Do you know what the resolution may be?

AG Paxton: So well that’s a great question. As a private attorney, I use to represent property owners and government entities were trying to take their land under eminent domain.

O’Connor: And we already know Donald Trump has said eminent domain is a beautiful thing. He loves eminent domain so…

AG Paxton: Well one, as long as it’s a government purpose, public purpose and not some private deal. And two, as long as land owners are compensated fairly we need eminent domain for roads. And so the wall has a public purpose, which is the safety of our citizens. I think that’s a worthy cause for eminent domain, as long as people are compensated fairly.
