MONTGOMERY VILLAGE – (WMAL) Montgomery County Police are investigating the murders of two high school students from Germantown, found shot to death inside a car in Montgomery Village Monday night.
The two students, 17-year-old Shadi Najjar and 18-year-old Artem Ziberov, were set to take part in Northwest High School’s graduation ceremony today at D.A.R. Constitution Hall in D.C. Police investigators have been working around the clock, Capt. Paul Starks told WMAL, but have yet to release any information about possible suspects.
“At about 10:45pm shots were heard, officers responded to the area, and found a vehicle in the 8200 block of Gallery Court with the two victims inside,” Starks said. “They succumbed to their wounds at the scene.”
There is a $10,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest, Starks said.
“I’m certain that residents fell shocked when hearing about two young men, who were still teenagers, murdered in their neighborhood,” he said.
Northwest’s graduation ceremonies are still set to go on this afternoon. The school’s principal, Jimmy D’Andrea, said in a letter sent to parents that counselors will be available at the graduation.
“For those of you who knew Artem and Shadi, we ask that you remember and celebrate them,” D’Andrea’s letter read. “They were both excellent students who had a positive impact on those around them, and they will be greatly missed.”
