Montgomery County Tests Internet Speeds

WASHINGTON – If you live in Montgomery County and think your Internet is slower than it should be, you’re not alone. Montgomery County Council member Hans Riemer said lots of residents have been complaining about inadequate Internet speeds.

The county is now asking residents to take a survey at CheckSpeedMontgomery.com that figures out how fast your Internet is and asks how much you pay and whether you are satisfied with your service.

“It’s very difficult to know how good a job they are doing delivering service in a comprehensive way, so we’re trying to crowdsource that information,” Riemer told WMAL.

County Executive Ike Legget said in a press release the information from the survey will be used to figure out which parts of the county aren’t getting the Internet speeds advertised.

The county will then push Internet providers to give customer’s better service.

The county is also looking at ways to make the market for Internet services more competitive by making it cheaper and faster for new companies to set up networks.
