WASHINGTON – The 13-year-old girl struck and killed by a V-R-E train while walking on the tracks near Clifton Wednesday afternoon has been identified as Reyhan Safoglu of Burke, Virginia.

Fairfax County Police said Safoglu and her 13-year-old cousin were walking on the Bull Run Bridge when a train came. The boy got out of the way, but Safoglu wasn’t able to get off the tracks in time to avoid being hit by the train. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Safoglu was hiking with her cousin and 21-year-old brother.

Safoglu was a student at Lake Braddock Secondary School. The police department’s school liaison commander is working with students today who are mourning the loss of their classmate.
