DC Police Shred Illegal Dirt Bikes, ATVs That Were Seized

WASHINGTON (AP) – Metropolitan police shredded over 60 illegal dirt bikes and ATVs to deter unlawful ridership in Washington, D.C.

The Washington Post (www.washingtonpost.com) reports D.C. police destroyed 62 dirt bikes and ATVs on Saturday.

The vehicles were abandoned, seized as part of a criminal investigation or taken because they were not registered and never claimed.

D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham said in a statement that those who illegally and recklessly operate these vehicles will see the shredding as a symbolic gesture that this type of behavior will not be tolerated.

D.C. police arrested 56 people on charges of illegally driving dirt bikes and ATVs in 2016. Police have made more than 20 arrests and confiscated 10 bikes so far this year.
