WASHINGTON (WMAL) – Seat Pleasant Police Chief Devan Martin was taken to the hospital with critical injuries Thursday night after his motorcycle and a car crashed on Martin Luther King Jr. Highway. Martin was patrolling on his motorcycle when the accident happened just before 8:45 p.m.

“We’re very thankful, as soon as this collision happened, it was reported very quickly by bystanders, and we have several civilians who were on the scene who very quickly came to the aide of Chief Martin and provided aide to him until county police officers and our fire department was able to come and then take over and provide him with more advanced care,” said Prince George’s County Police spokesperson Cpl. Tyler Hunter.

Hunter said the chief was originally taken to the hospital with critical injuries, but his condition improved. His injuries have now been downgraded to non-life threatening.

The accident is under investigation.
