BIRMINGHAM, ALA. — A Florida-based evangelical ministry is suing a liberal watchdog group that called it a hate group because of its stance against LGBT rights.

D. James Kennedy Ministries filed the federal lawsuit this week against the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center.

The law center tracks extremist organizations, and it names organizations it considers to be hate groups.

The list includes the Christian organization for its stance against LGBT rights.

The ministry’s lawsuit says the designation has led to it being considered a hate group by a company that rates nonprofits, GuideStar, and by Amazon. The suit says Amazon excluded the ministry from a donation program because of the label.

The lawsuit claims the ministry is a victim of discrimination because it follows Christian teachings.

The law center had no immediate comment.
