WASHINGTON (WMAL)–A suspect in one of our area’s most notorious crimes is poised to plead guilty.

60 year old Lloyd Lee Welch, accused in the disappearance of the two Lyon sisters back in 1975 is reportedly ready to plead guilty, according to the Washington Post.

Detectives believe the girls, Katherine and Sheila, were sexually assaulted and murdered and their remains burned in rural Bedford County, VA where Welch’s family has property.

The case was scheduled to start next week in Bedford, but now is listed as withdrawn, indicating a plea deal has been reached that, sources say, would require Welch to plead guilty in the Lyon case and face decades in prison.
