Fairfax Police: One Dead in Shooting at Office Building

FALLS CHURCH – (WMAL) Fairfax Police confirm one person is dead following a shooting at an office building on Gatehouse Road, near Arlington Boulevard and Gallows Road. Police tweeted it appears there is no longer be a threat at the building.

Police Chief Edwin Roessler said they received multiple calls from people in the office building reporting a man with a pistol firing rounds.

“We assume that the deceased is the shooter, but I can’t rule out whether or not there was someone else,” he told reporters soon after the incident. “We’re pretty certain that the deceased was the shooter.”

Roessler told WRC-TV it appeared the man had shot himself, as it was not a police-involved shooting.

Reports of an active shooter first surfaced around 5:00 pm on Wednesday. The complex on Gatehouse Road comprises of a hotel, preschool, apartments, and offices, among other businesses. The Mosaic District is also nearby.

The building also houses a preschool. Police said children were evacuated, with a reunification point nearby at Luther Jackson Middle School.
