UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WMAL) — Two brothers who played a role in the death of a Prince George’s County officer are expected to spend time in prison.

The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney announced that Malik and Elijah Ford pleaded guilty today in the attack.

Detective Jacai Colson was killed by another officer’s gunfire in the March 2016 ambush.

The two were with their brother, Michael Ford, who is the man accused of initiating the shots outside the police station.

Colson was in plain clothes when he jumped out of his car to confront the gunman. Several other officers returned fire.

Malik Ford pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree murder, use of a handgun in commission of a felony, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

Elijah Ford pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks released this statement saying:

“We are very pleased at the outcome of today’s hearing and our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the Colson family and all those who were directly impacted by this senseless act of violence.”

Malik and Elijah Ford are set to be sentenced in May 2018.

Malik faces up to 20 years behind bars and Elijah faces up to 12 years because of their plea arrangements.

Michael Ford was also supposed to have a hearing today but those have been postponed to a later date.
