Undocumented Immigrant Leaves Philly Church After 11 Months (NBC Philadelphia)

Tammie Souza Shares Son’s Fight After Brain Tumor

Under the watchful eye of William Penn near Philadelphia City Hall, Javier Flores Garcia stepped into fresh air for the first time in almost 11 months Wednesday morning.

“It was painful watching parents with their kids walk around here and not be able to do the same,” he said. “It’s very hard and very difficult.”

The 40-year-old undocumented immigrant found sanctuary at the United Methodist Church on Broad and Arch streets shortly after President Donald Trump was elected to office. It was a form of resistance, but also an attempt to protect his family by remaining close enough to still see them and be a part of their lives. [Read More]

The Catholic Magazine Interview With Milo They Refuse to Print (Church Militant)

Over five weeks ago, I sent the following answers to questions I was asked by America magazine, a journal run by Jesuits. They have chosen not to publish it, perhaps out of compassion, fearing too many of their aging readers would suffer heart failure. Or perhaps they couldn’t stand my tweaking of their most famous contributor, Fr. James Martin, notorious for equivocating over any Church teaching that might cause a stir at an Anglican garden party.
Amusingly, while the Jesuits struggled to decide if they could bear to publish my answers, one of the Church’s highest ranking Cardinals called out Fr. Martin by name as “one of the most outspoken critics of the church’s message with regard to sexuality.” That means my side in this dispute enjoys support from a black prince of the Church raised on a continent where martyrdom is common, while the other side’s champion is a white bourgeois man in whose life the worst threat is that the wine is a bit off this week.
Ask yourself:  Which of these men would you want to have your six? [Read More]
American Caitlan Coleman, family freed from Afghanistan captors (Fox News)

An American woman, her Canadian husband and their three young children — who had been held captive since 2012 by the Taliban-affiliated Haqqani network — were freed after an operation involving Pakistani forces, officials announced Thursday.

Caitlan Coleman, 32, was seven months pregnant when she and her husband, Josh Boyle, were abducted.

The operation that set Coleman, Boyle and their children free was undertaken by Pakistani forces based on actionable intelligence provided by U.S. authorities, according to a statement by the Pakistan’s armed forces. U.S. intelligence agencies had been tracking the hostages and shared the location with Pakistani counterparts when the hostages shifted into Pakistani territory Wednesday. [Read More]

Actress Rose McGowan says Twitter suspended her account after Harvey Weinstein criticism (The Blaze)

Actress Rose McGowan said early Thursday morning that Twitter temporarily suspended her account after she used the social media network to criticize those she said knew about film producer Harvey Weinstein’s alleged predatory behavior.

What did McGowan say?

In an Instagram post, McGowan, wrote: “TWITTER HAS SUSPENDED ME. THERE ARE POWERFUL FORCES AT WORK. BE MY VOICE.” The post featured a screenshot of a message she said she got from Twitter saying that she was in violation of the website’s rules. The suspension left her unable to tweet, but left her account visible. [Read More]

Trump’s health care executive order (Fox News)

After a summer of failed health care reform bills in Congress, the White House announced Thursday that President Donald Trump is taking executive action in an effort to provide more “alternatives” to health insurance.

Trump is signing an executive order that would help people to purchase insurance across state lines, among other changes. The order is seen by critics as an attempt to undermine ObamaCare, a key component of his predecessor’s legacy. But the White House contends it will help expand access and lower costs. [Read More]

Energy company Exelon will pay for extended Metro service this evening to accommodate Nationals fans and visitors to the now-opened The Wharf.
