Trump blasts ‘politicized’ FBI, Justice, as expected release of damning memo nears (Fox News)

Hours before the expected release of a damning memo on FBI spying abuses, President Trump unleashed an early-morning tweet at a Justice Department he said has been “politicized” by Democrats.

The shot at the Justice Department came after much back and forth between the Department and its subsidiary FBI, which have argued against release of a memo summarizing the House Permanent Select Comittee on Intelligence probe of the department’s investigation into alleged Trump-Russia collusion.

GOP-led House investigators believe the FBI used a dubious dossier, initially prepared as campaign opposition research for Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid, to get permission from a secret federal court to eavesdrop on Trump campaign and transition team communications. [Read More]

Congressional Republicans are seeking to make the case that the FBI’s investigation into President Trump’s campaign and possible collusion with Russia was based on flawed or politically tainted evidence connected to partisans loyal to Hillary Clinton.

The House Intelligence Committee memo spearheaded by Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) that is the talk of Washington will be at the center of the argument. The release of that four-page memo is expected as early as Friday.

Another document — an eight-page criminal referral filed with the Justice Department by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) — is also part of the GOP case. [Read More]

John Kelly told Trump the memo is not as damning as GOP claims: Report (Washington Examiner)

White House chief of staff John Kelly told President Trump on Wednesday that he believed a classified memo written by House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes was being overhyped and did not have the damning details Republicans claim to know about the FBI and Justice Department, according to a report published late Thursday.

Kelly hand-delivered the memo to Trump in the Oval Office Wednesday afternoon. They both talked about it then Kelly left Trump to read the full document by himself.

Hours later, Kelly returned to speak with his boss and told him he did not think releasing the redacted document would endanger national security, but said the document did not make as compelling of a case against federal investigators who allegedly used false information from the Fusion GPS dossier to obtain a search warrant, according to the Washington Post.
