Senate leaders reached a two-year spending deal Wednesday that would boost the budget by nearly $300 billion in 2018 and 2019, with the Pentagon’s budget rising $80 billion and domestic spending by $63 billion this year alone.
The budget-busting deal clears the way for senators to approve a six-week stopgap spending bill now, buying time for the spending committees to go back and flesh out exactly how to dole out the additional $143 billion. Veterans, anti-opioid efforts and disaster relief are all expected to see substantial infusions of cash.
