Alexandria, VA — (WMAL) A man attempting to flee on foot from Fairfax Police officers during a traffic stop ended up hitting himself with his own vehicle when he forgot to put it in park.

Officer Tara Gerhard of Fairfax County Police Department said that an officer was traveling along Arlington Road and Route 1 around 1 a.m. on Sunday when he attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for equipment violation. The vehicle made a turn on southbound Route 1 then back on to Belford Drive, then through a Starbucks parking lot and eventually went back on to Arlington Drive, according to Gerhard.

The driver then got out of his vehicle but forgot to put it in park, causing him to get hit by the vehicle as he ran in front of it. Although he was hit, the driver got up and continued running but was eventually caught and placed under arrest, Gerhard said.

The driver was placed under arrest on a list of charges including driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, driving on a revoked license and one county of felony hit-and-run.
