A scientists’ group has rescinded an award to a turtle researcher who included pictures of scantily clad female students doing field research in his speech at a New York conference.
The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle reports longtime Brazilian turtle researcher Dick Vogt showed the racy slides Thursday during the Joint Meeting of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists in Rochester.

DC police seize alligator from home (Fox 5 DC)
Authorities took a bite out of crime after they seized an alligator from a home in the District.
DC police said they were serving a search warrant Wednesday evening with the DC Humane Rescue Alliance in the 3500 block of Brothers Place, SE when they found the alligator.
The alligator, which police said was between 4 and 5 years old, was found in the basement of the home. [Read More]
Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan announces bid for House Speaker (NBC News)
Ohio Republican Rep. Jim Jordan, a conservative firebrand and staunch ally of President Donald Trump, said Thursday he would run to succeed Paul Ryan as House Speaker.
“Should the American people entrust us with the majority again in the 116th Congress, I plan to run for Speaker of the House to bring real change to the House of Representatives,” Jordan, a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, said in a statement.
“President Trump has taken bold action on behalf of the American people. Congress has not held up its end of the deal, but we can change that. It’s time to do what we said,” added Jordan, who also sent a letter to his House colleagues announcing his intention to run. [Read More]
Special counsel Robert Mueller is investigating whether President Donald Trump‘s tweets about Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former FBI Director James Comey amount to obstruction of justice, The New York Times reported on Thursday, citing three people familiar with the matter.
Mueller is investigating whether the president intimidated witnesses or sought to end the investigation, according to the report. The interest in the president’s posts on Twitter is part of a broader inquiry that includes misleading statements from the White House and the dangling of pardons to possible witnesses. [Read More]
STUDY: Women Prefer Men Who Eat Meat (Daily Wire)
Sorry, vegetarian and vegan men, but women prefer your meat-eating brethren.
At least according to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Padova (that’s in Italy). The study titled “Eating Meat Makes You Sexy: Conformity to Dietary Gender Norms and Practices” found that when women were presented with fake bios of men that either showed food preferences that included meat or yogurt, they preferred the men who ate meat.
One experiment (out of three conducted by the researchers) asked 50 Italian women to rate the men’s bios as “attractive,” “sexy,” or even “I would date him.” Negative descriptors were also included. [Read More]
