WASHINGTON (WMAL) – The Montgomery County Police Department is investigating a heist that took place Tuesday in the Gucci section of Saks Fifth Avenue in Chevy Chase.

Around 11:34 a.m., police responded to the department store located on Wisconsin Avenue in reference to a report of a strong arm robbery, according to MCPD spokesperson Sgt. Rebecca Innocenti.

Detectives believe that there were approximately seven male suspects involved. Sgt. Innocenti said that two of the suspects initially went to the Gucci section of the store when they were met by an employee, whom they shoved to the side. The rest of the suspects then went to the Gucci section and the group overtook the store.

“They were very fast in the store. Detectives believed for about a minute, they grabbed any merchandise that they could. At this time, that includes belts, socks, purses and left the store,” Sgt. Innocenti told WMAL.

Witnesses did see the suspects enter two separate vehicles and were last seen headed toward District of Columbia. The amount that was stolen in merchandise is estimated to be between $20,000 and $30,000.
