Metro launches a track reconstruction project Saturday that will shutter part of the Blue Line, initiate round-the-clock single-tracking on the Orange and Silver lines, and close two busy downtown stations on two weekends.

Gov. Ralph Northam popped up at Washington Redskins training camp this week to give a plug for more elementary school recess, something coming to several Northern Virginia school systems this fall under a new state law.

Republican Troy Balderson clings to narrow lead in Ohio special election (Washington Examiner)
Republican Troy Balderson leads in the highly scrutinized Ohio 12th Congressional District’s special election over Democrat Danny O’Connor Tuesday night, as President Trump, the Republican National Committee, and the National Republican Congressional Committee all declared victory.

Balderson, a state senator who grew up in this Muskingum County city, fought back against the Democratic insurgent O’Connor, who made this race closer than a safe Republican House seat should look on election night. [Read More]

Groups predicted immigrants and minorities would be discouraged from participating in the decennial survey, leading to undercounts on data that’s used to parcel out seats in Congress, and hundreds of billions of dollars federal assistance. [Read More]
