Tuesday, October 9, 2018

Hosts: Mary Walter and Vince Coglianese

Executive Producer: Heather Hunter

5am – A/B/C Juan Williams: The GOP can’t govern (The Hill) Is he right? The troubles of the current House Republican leadership began when the House Freedom Caucus forced the resignation of a pragmatic conservative, Speaker John Boehner(R-Ohio), in 2015. Those same hardline members derailed House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-Calif.) bid to replace Boehner because they labeled him as weak and insufficiently conservative. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) originally did not want the Speaker’s job but was drafted into it when his colleagues begged him, arguing he was the only Republican they were willing to support.

5am – D/E Kavanaugh Debuts On Supreme Court, Pledging To Be A ‘Team Player’ (NPR) On Monday evening, Kavanaugh, 53, joined family members, friends and President Trump at the White House for a ceremonial swearing-in ceremony, where the new justice tried to ease the partisan wounds from his confirmation process. “The Supreme Court is an institution of law. It is not a partisan or political institution,” Kavanaugh said. “The justices do not sit on opposite sides of an aisle. We do not caucus in separate rooms. The Supreme Court is a team of nine, and I will always be a team player on the team of nine.”

6am – A/B/C Which democrat do you expect/want to run in 2020

6am – D Trump, Rosenstein meet on Air Force One in wake of ‘wire’ report (Fox News) President Trump met aboard Air Force One with Rod Rosenstein on Monday, for a long-awaited sit-down in the wake of last month’s bombshell report that the deputy attorney general suggested wearing a wire to secretly record the president and even invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office. Trump and Rosenstein met for a half-hour, according to the White House, en route to the International Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Convention in Orlando, Fla. Their meeting had been repeatedly delayed amid the chaotic Brett Kavanaugh confirmation process. But White House Deputy Press Secretary Hogan Gidley told reporters the president talked to Rosenstein for “roughly 30 minutes” — and confirmed that “yes,” Rosenstein still has his job in the administration.

6am – E Twitter users who share monikers with high-profile people vent their woes after a Kentucky man called Brett Kavanagh went viral (Daily Mail) A Kentucky man named Brett Kavanagh complained about his name being similar to the Supreme Court’s Brett Kavanaugh His tweet earned a million likes and was met with several replies from other people with famous names Women called Alexa and Siri complained about their names being used for different AI assistants Other people who chimed in have names like Steve Bannon, Susan Collins, Michael Jackson, and Bruce Lee

6am – F  Kanye West is headed to the White House (CNN) Kanye West will meet with President Donald Trump and his son-in-law Jared Kushner at the White House on Thursday. West will have lunch with the President at the White House and meet with Kushner, according to White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders. The New York Times first reported news of the meeting. West’s visit to the White House falls in line with Kushner’s efforts at criminal justice reform. West hopes to discuss two key issues during his visit at the White House: job opportunities for ex-convicts and ways to increase manufacturing jobs in and around his hometown of Chicago.

Really mad.
