Supreme Court allows Trump administration to enforce military’s transgender ban (Washington Examiner)

The Trump administration can begin enforcing its policy restricting many transgender people from serving in the military while legal challenges proceed through the lower courts, the Supreme Court said Tuesday.

The court voted 5-4 to grant Justice Department requests to put on hold lower court orders that blocked the Trump administration from enforcing the transgender military ban nationwide.

The court split along ideological lines, with justices appointed by Democratic presidents voting to deny the Trump administration’s application to halt the lower court rulings — Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan. [Read More]

Covington High School student’s mom speaks out about viral video encounter (FOX News)

A mother who chaperoned a group of Kentucky high school students now facing criticism after an edited video from the March for Life rally went viral told Fox News she believes they were targeted “for what they stood for.”

Jill Hamlin’s comments on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday came just as Covington High Schoolannounced it would be closed Tuesday for safety precautions. She said boys from the school were attending the rally, as they do each year, when another group – the so-called Black Hebrew Israelites – started shouting abuse at the students for wearing “Make America Great Again” hats. Case of terror suspect caught sneaking into U.S. roils immigration debate (Washington Times)

Zabi-Ullah Hemmat wasn’t just one of 415,816 illegal immigrants caught at the southwest border in fiscal 2016. Nor was he just another of the 84 people from Afghanistan apprehended by Border Patrol agents that year.

What made Mr. Hemmat of special interest to authorities is that when he was snared by agents after 11 p.m. on a chilly November night and they ran his name through federal databases, he came back listed on the no-fly terrorist watch-list.

Mr. Hemmat is one of the terrorism suspects caught trying to sneak into the U.S. from Mexico — a category of people that is very much part of the current debate over illegal immigration, with President Trump insisting his border wall would deter people from being able to reach American soil and Democrats saying there’s no real danger.

Mr. Hemmat’s case suggests both may be wrong. [Read More]

All-Female ‘Ghostbusters’ Star SLAMS New Sequel: ‘It’s Like Something Trump Would Do’ (The Daily Wire)

Leslie Jones, comedian and star of the all-female “Ghostbusters” reboot, is slamming the upcoming “Ghostbusters” sequel, calling the studio’s decision to greenlight a new movie by director Jason Reitman “insulting.”

Entertainment Weekly broke news of the upcoming sequel last week in an interview with Reitman, son of the original “Ghostbusters” director, Ivan Reitman. The new movie, which has a release date of 2020, will take place in the same universe as the original and will reportedly feature the same cast as the 1980 version (though without Harold Ramis, who died several years ago). Reitman promises newcomers — four teenaged “Ghostbusters” protegees — and a fresh storyline. [Read More]

DC THINK TANK CALLS ON NBC TO STOP BLACKING OUT CLIMATE SKEPTICS (The Daily Caller)

A Washington-based think tank published an ad Tuesday pressing NBC News to stop blacklisting climate skeptics from debating aspects of global warming on the channel’s broadcasts.

The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) created an ad campaign pushing NBC’s “Meet the Press” to include climate skeptics in future broadcasts discussing aspects of global warming. NBC refused to run a televised version of the 30-second ad on its Jan. 20 episode, according to a CEI press statement.

“NBC has made it perfectly clear they have no interest in hosting an open debate on climate change or policy alternatives for the environment, as evidenced by their decision to reject both guests on-air and paid ads during the program to give expert views shared by millions of Americans,” CEI President Kent Lassman noted in a press statement Tuesday morning.
