Democrats counter Trump: How about a ‘pedestrian fence’? (Washington Examiner)

Democrats who oppose President Trump’s border wall say they might be able to agree to spend $1.6 billion on new fencing along a pedestrian walkway in the Rio Grande Valley.

“I’d be willing to listen and see what those senators have to say,” said Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, about the idea of the fence. He is one of nine Democrats appointed to a committee tasked with coming up with a border security deal by Feb. 15.

Cuellar added, “I’ve been very clear that I don’t like the wall.” [Read More]

Appearing on CNN with host Brooke Baldwin on Monday before his nemesis, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, spoke with the media, CNN White House reporter Jim Acosta couldn’t resist taking another swipe at her, saying she doesn’t live in the “real world.” Acosta and Baldwin were discussing the White House’s reaction to the possibly temporary end to the government shutdown when he blustered, “It will be interesting to see whether or not Sarah Sanders and the White House team over here have truly come back to the real world when she steps out to the podium here in about 30 minutes from now.” [Read More]

Some Dems float idea of primary challenge for Ocasio-Cortez (The Hill)

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has infuriated colleagues by aligning with a progressive outside group that’s threatening to primary entrenched Democrats. Now some of those lawmakers are turning the tables on her and are discussing recruiting a primary challenger to run against the social media sensation.

At least one House Democrat has been privately urging members of the New York delegation to recruit a local politician from the Bronx or Queens to challenge Ocasio-Cortez. [Read More]

Virginia House sends bill providing $550M in Amazon incentives to Gov. Ralph Northam (WJLA)

After nine minutes of debate, the Virginia House sent a bill providing more than a half-billion dollars in incentives for Amazon to Gov. Ralph Northam for his signature.

News outlets report that the House voted 83-16 on Monday in favor of the measure, which would create $550 million in “post-performance” incentives for the technology giant, based on job creation.

Northam has said he will sign the bill, which would give Amazon cash grants of $22,000 per new full-time job for the first 25,000 jobs. [Read More]
