BOWIE, MD (WMAL) — A small private airplane has crashed on US-50 near Church Road in Bowie, Prince George’s County, MD after failing to reach the runway at Freeway Airport in Mitchellville.
Michael Yourishin with the Prince George’s County Fire Department told WMAL that “Pilot was trying to make a landing at Freeway Airport here off of US-50 and ended up running into a car, ended up a little bit short of the runway, and right now we have 4 individuals currently being evaluated for injury.”
The crash took place in the eastbound lanes and the plane came to rest against a jersey wall; state police is directing traffic around the crash, and drivers can expect road closures off and on for several hours.
