SHOW RUNDOWN:

5AM HOUR:

5A/B/C – 2020 NEWS:

  • Trump vastly outspending Biden in presidential campaign ad wars President Trump’s campaign has outspent Democratic challenger Joe Biden‘s by nearly a three-to-one margin since the general election campaign got underway a month and a half ago. The former vice president’s campaign has spent roughly $8 million to run ads since early April, when Biden became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee as his last remaining rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., ended his White House bid. Those figures come from Advertising Analytics, a leading ad tracking firm. The president’s reelection campaign and the allied Make America Great Again Committee have spent approximately $21 million to run ads during the same time period.
  • Watchdog asks feds to investigate university, Biden center for millions in anonymous China donations The complaint, filed by the National Legal and Policy Center, says that over the past three years, the university has accepted around $22 million in anonymous funding from Chinese sources. That’s out of a total of more than $70 million from Chinese donors during that time, the NLPC said. Those significant funds, including the anonymous amounts, rolled in after the Biden Center was announced in early 2017 and launched in February 2018. The center is located in downtown Washington, D.C.

5D/E: GOOD CORONAVIRUS NEWS:

  • No Major Spike In Cases’: NBC Nightly News Airs Segment On Georgia Reopening Presented by weekend anchor Jose Diaz-Balart and reporter Blayne Alexander, the Saturday evening “NBC Nightly News” segment featured an interview with a Georgia barbershop owner and an analysis of new coronavirus cases before and after the reopening. “When Georgia became one of the first states to reopen back in April many said it was too much too soon, predicting a new surge in coronavirus cases,” said Diaz-Balart, introducing the segment. “Now, exactly four weeks later, Blayne Alexander reports on whether Georgia’s gamble paid off.”
  • SYDNEY MORNING HERALD: Low virus rate leaves Oxford vaccine trial with ‘only 50% chance’ Professor Adrian Hill said an upcoming Oxford vaccine trial, involving 10,000 volunteers, threatened to return “no result” because of low transmission of COVID-19 in the community. The eyes of the nation — and perhaps the world — are firmly on Hill and his team at Oxford University. […] The stakes could hardly be higher. If proven effective, the ZD1222 vaccine would allow people to leave their homes and go back to work, and the shattered global economy to rebuild. But Hill, director of the university’s Jenner Institute, revealed his team now faced a major problem, throwing the September deadline into doubt. “It is a race, yes. But it’s not a race against the other guys. It’s a race against the virus disappearing, and against time,” he said. “At the moment, there’s a 50 per cent chance that we get no result at all.” Hill said that of 10,000 people recruited to test the vaccine in the coming weeks — some of whom will be given a placebo — he expected fewer than 50 people to catch the virus. If fewer than 20 test positive, then the results might be useless, he warned. “We’re in the bizarre position of wanting COVID to stay, at least for a little while. But cases are declining.”

6AM HOUR:

 6A/B/C: MEMORIAL DAY

  • Trump Honors Fallen Warriors: “Together, we will vanquish the virus, and America will rise from this crisis to new, and even greater heights,” Trump said at Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine. “As our brave warriors have shown us from the nation’s earliest days – in America, we are the captains of our own fate. “No obstacle, no challenge, and no threat is a match for the sheer determination of the American people,” Trump continued. “This towering spirit permeates every inch of the hallowed soil beneath our feet.”
  • Biden lays wreath at Veteran’s Park in DE: Leaving his home in Wilmington, Del., for his first public trip anywhere since the coronavirus pandemic shuttered much of the country two months ago, former Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Jill made an unannounced visit on Monday to attend a Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony. The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee wore a black mask covering his mouth and nose during the ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park at the Delaware Memorial Bridge in New Castle, which is a short drive from Biden’s home.
  • Retired U.S. Marine stands on median for 24 hours to raise awareness about veteran suicide Wearing his Dress Blues, retired U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Tim Chambers walked to a concrete median at high noon Sunday and issued a 22-minute salute. Chambers, 45, of San Diego, California, would remain on that median — located at the corner of Constitution Avenue and 23rd Street in Northwest D.C. — for the next 24 hours. In 2002, Chambers, then in his early 20s, began saluting motorcyclists during Rolling Thunder. He hasn’t missed a year since, in turn, becoming an institution of sorts. In previous years, Chambers would hold a salute for between three and five hours as hundreds of thousands of motorcycles drove by. The exact amount of time varied by the annual attendance numbers. To highlight the prevalence of veteran suicide, Chambers settled on a 24-hour demonstration. At the beginning of the first hour, he held a salute for 22 minutes to symbolize the 22 American veterans who take their life every day, on average. The salute drops by one minute each hour, ultimately working its way down to zero.

6E –  HGTV’s New Show Will Feature Comedians Making Jokes While Watching ‘House Hunters’ Fans of HGTV’s “House Hunters” know that the homebuyers featured on the show are not always portrayed in a realistic light. A common gripe is that their occupations don’t often seem to align with their high-end budgets. Then there are the people who act as if features that can easily be changed in a home — like the carpet or paint colors — are dealbreakers. Although the show can seem over-the-top and ridiculous at times, those who really love it know that a good sense of humor is key to the enjoyment of this particular brand of reality television. In that spirit, HGTV is now in on the joke with their new spin on the series, “House Hunters: Comedians on Couches.” The new show will feature a panel of seven comedians offering cutting commentary on classic episodes of “House Hunters.” You’ll hear unfiltered wisecracks on the absurdity from comedians including Dan Levy, Natasha Leggero, Whitney Cummings, Eliot Glazer, John Mulaney, Chris Redd and J.B. Smoove. The network shared this promo for the show on Instagram on May 18

6F: Grimes reveals she and Elon Musk were forced to tone down baby son’s bizarre name to X Æ A-Xii in order to comply with California law Grimes and her billionaire love Elon Musk have had to change their baby son’s bizarre name after it was found to be in violation of California law. Their newborn son was initially called X Æ A-12 (pronounced ‘Ex Ash A Twelve’) but California law prohibits Indo-Arabic numerals in names. Now the 32-year-old singer revealed in her Instagram comments that the baby’s name is now written X Æ A-Xii, substituting in the Roman numerals signifying ’12.’

7E – NFL’s Troy Vincent: ‘We’re planning to have full stadiums until medical community tells us otherwise’ When the NFL season kicks off later this year, the league is still expecting to have full stadiums, according to one top NFL executive. “We are planning to have full stadiums until the medical community tells us otherwise,” NFL EVP of Football Operations Troy Vincent said on “The Brian Mitchell Show” on The Team 980 on Friday. “Now remember when we’re talking — we’re talking about September, August, September. So there’s a lot that can happen here. So we’re planning for full stadiums. “We also know that we have to plan for half stadiums. Three-quarters. So we’re planning for all of these different scenarios. But first and foremost, we’re making every effort, working with the medical community, if we can have those stadiums with all people until they tell us otherwise when that time comes, that’s our plan. That’s our plan of action.”

8AM HOUR:

8A – INTERVIEW – CHERYL CHUMLEY – Online Opinion Editor for The Washington Times and host of the podcast “Bold and Blunt”

8B/C – TARA READE NEWS:

  • Biden accuser Tara Reade dropped by lawyer as reports questioning her work as expert witness surface: Prominent attorney Douglas H. Wigdor dropped Tara Reade, who has accused the Democrats’ presumptive 2020 presidential nominee Joe Biden of sexual assault, as a client this week as questions about her past have been reported. Reade is a former Senate staffer who came forward this past March saying Biden assaulted her in 1993. The former vice president repeatedly has denied Reade’s claims, bluntly saying it “never happened.” The high-powered attorney’s move to sever ties was “by no means a reflection on whether then-Senator Biden sexually assaulted Ms. Reade,” Wigdor said in a statement provided to The New York Times. Wigdor did not specify the exact reason why he no longer was representing Reade but attacked the way media covered her. “Much of what has been written about Ms. Reade is not probative of whether then-Senator Biden sexually assaulted her, but rather is intended to victim-shame and attack her credibility on unrelated and irrelevant matters,” Wigdor’s statement continued. “We have and will continue to represent survivors regardless of their alleged predator’s status or politics.”

  • Ilhan Omar: ‘I do believe’ Tara Reade’s claims against Joe Biden Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., said she believes Tara Reade’s sexual-assault claim against Joe Biden, and that if it were up to her, Biden wouldn’t be the Democrats’ nominee for president. “I do believe Reade,” Omar told the British Sunday Times. “Justice can be delayed but should never be denied.” The freshman progressive “Squad” member had endorsed and campaigned for Biden’s rival, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.

8E – Trump Says He Has A Chance ‘To Break The Deep State,’ Teases New Revelations From Declassification In an interview with journalist Sharyl Attkisson, Trump suggested that additional information is going to come out about the surveillance efforts. […] Trump went on to accuse the “deep state” of trying to derail his presidency through the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian government. “If it keeps going the way it’s going, I have a chance to break the deep state,” Trump said. […] Trump praised Richard Grenell, the acting director of national intelligence, for declassifying and releasing a slew of documents related to investigations of the Trump campaign. “Richard Grenell is a superstar. He had guts, he had courage to do what he did,” Trump said. He also said he has high hopes for Texas Rep. John Ratcliffe, who takes over for Grenell on Tuesday. “We have another superstar going in — as you know — John Ratcliffe.”
