Israel signs pacts with 2 Arab states: A ‘new’ Mideast? (AP)

Israel on Tuesday signed historic diplomatic pacts with two Gulf Arab states at a White House ceremony that President Donald Trump declared will mark the “dawn of a new Middle East,” casting himself as an international peacemaker at the height of his reelection campaign.

The bilateral agreements formalize the normalization of Israel’s already thawing relations with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain in line with their common opposition to Iran. But the agreements do not address the decades-long conflict between Israel and the Palestinians, who view the pacts as a stab in the back from their fellow Arabs and a betrayal of their cause for a Palestinian state. ICE lodges detainers on 3 defendants in Baltimore murder with ties to MS-13 (ICE)

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has lodged immigration detainers on three defendants charged in the May 29 murder of 16-year-old Gabriela Ardon. In addition to being illegally present in the United States, they are believed to be members or associates of Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), a transnational criminal organization. [Read More]

Big Ten football to resume weekend of Oct. 24 (ESPN)

The Big Ten will kick off its football season the weekend of Oct. 24 after the league’s presidents and chancellors unanimously voted to resume competition, citing daily testing capabilities and a stronger confidence in the latest medical information, the conference announced Wednesday morning.

Each team will attempt to play eight games in eight weeks, leaving no wiggle room during the coronavirus pandemic before the Big Ten championship game on Dec. 19.
