WATCH: President Trump announces distribution of 150M rapid tests for Coronavirus

WASHINGTON (AP/WMAL) – President Donald Trump has announced the shipment of millions of rapid coronavirus tests to states this week. He is urging governors to use them to reopen schools.

The federal government aims to ship 100 million tests to states over the next several weeks.

The rapid tests from Abbott Laboratories can be used outside of medical facilities.

Here’s the breakdown:

–50 million tests will go to protect the most vulnerable communities including nursing home (18 million), assisted living facilities (15 million), and home health/hospice care (10 million)
— Another 1 million tests would go to historically black colleges and universities and tribal nation colleges/universities.
–100 million rapid point of care tests will be sent to states in an effort to re-open their economies and schools immediately

The test, which consists of a nose swab will provide accurate results within 15 minutes.
