WASHINGTON – This year’s 98th National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is going virtual due to COVID-19.

The National Park Service has announced that this year’s ceremony will not feature a live audience due to COVID-19-related public health concerns. Instead of the usually crowded ceremony, folks will be able to watch the tree lighting and holiday performances on Dec. 3 at thenationaltree.org.

According to NPS, visitors are still welcomed to see the National Christmas Tree at President’s Park. The 56 smaller trees representing every state and territory and the District of Columbia with handmade ornaments from those regions will also be available to view.

NPS also said that the National Christmas Tree will be lit up every evening throughout the month of December.

If you aren’t able to see it in person, the tree lighting event will be available to stream on-demand throughout the holiday season.
