WASHINGTON – The U.S. Air Force is investigating an adult male intruder who gained unauthorized access to Joint Base Andrews’ flightline and entered a C-40 aircraft yesterday.

According to a statement from Joint Base Andrews, the man was unarmed and detained by security forces.

He was later booked by OSI and given a federal summons for trespassing. The man had two outstanding warrants and was subsequently turned over to local law enforcement.

According to the release, the man did not harm any personnel at the base. Investigators said there is also no indication that the man has any links to extremist groups.

“The security of our installation is paramount,” said Col. Roy Oberhaus, the vice wing commander of the 316th Wing at Joint Base Andrews. “This was a serious breach of security and Joint Base Andrews is investigating the incident to determine how this happened so it doesn’t happen again.”

How the intruder gained access to Joint Base Andrews is still under investigation.
