RICHMOND, VA – February 16, 2022

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin signed a bill into law Wednesday requiring school systems to get rid of mask mandates.

Starting March 1, parents will have the power to choose whether or not their children should wear masks to school.

“Now is our chance to give all parents the rights to make decisions that we know they have,” stated Youngkin. He says the bill is reaffirming “the rights we know all parents have. The fundamental rights to make decisions for your children – for their education.”

Delegate Marcus Simon (D – VA 53rd District) opposed the legislation calling it bad policy and poorly executed. Simon said “this was a rush to get the Governor a much needed political win.” Simon also said that bill also violates the Virginia Constitution.
