Montgomery County School Hosts Protest for Police-Free Schools

By WMAL.com

Over the weekend a group of parents and students gathered in front of the Montgomery County Board of Education building to voice their opposition to a police presence inside of schools. The call to remove law enforcement from schools echoes the national narrative from democrats to defund police departments nationwide.

  • Sexual assault cases on the rise: at Northern Virginia public schools. The protest follows a week in which details were revealed of a case in the Alexandria School District where a student was allegedly sexually assaulted and sent to the hospital. A Freedom of Information Act request filed by the Independent Women’s Forum found that school administrators were informed of details on the case but failed to relay those details to parents of students attending the school.
  • What protestors are saying: “An increase in violence happened this year … but it’s not because there was no police. But just because that mental health support just wasn’t there for students,” said one school volunteer.
