Former President Donald J. Trump has officially endorsed former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s bid for the state’s at-large congressional seat. The seat was vacated last week after Congressman Don Young, the longest serving member in the House, passed away.
- What Trump said: “Sarah Palin is tough and smart and will never back down, and I am proud to give her my complete and total endorsement and encourage all Republicans to unite behind this wonderful person and her campaign to put America First,” said Trump in a statement on Sunday. He continued, “Sarah shocked many when she endorsed me very early in 2016, and we won big,” the former president added. “Now, it’s my turn!”
- Palin the favorite: the former governor is seen as the front runner in this race that will likely be decided by the winner of the Republican primary. Between state-wide name recognition and the weight carried by a Trump endorsement she is well positioned to be the next Representative for the state of Alaska.
- The special election is scheduled to take place this summer. Primaries for both parties will be held on June 11 and the general election will be held on August 16.
