Elon Musk Becomes Twitter’s Largest Investor

By WMAL.com

Tesla founder and Twitter darling Elon Musk took the internet by storm on Monday announcing he had purchased a 9.2% stake in Twitter. The investment makes Musk the single largest stakeholder in the online social media platform.

  • Setting the stage: Musk teased followers last week to the idea of creating his own social network that prioritized free speech. He has become an increasingly more popular figure on the platform, boasting a following of more than 80 million users. While Musk has been critical of the platform, he and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey have been good friends for years.
  • Up 27.1%: the percentage that Twitter’s stock rose following Musk’s announcement. This marks the largest single-day stock growth experienced by Twitter since its IPO nine years ago.
  • First order of business: after the announcement Musk took to Twitter to ask his followers one simple question – “Do you want an edit button?”
