Miyares Takes Aim at Progressive Prosecutors

By WMAL.com

As Republicans prepare for the 2022 midterm elections, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares is weighing in to provide the party strategic insight into what help fuel his victory this past Fall. Miyares recently spoke to a group of Republicans in an event hosted by the Republican Study Committee on how he was able to connect with voters over issues pertaining to the rising crime rates.

While Republicans are sure to continue to attack liberal candidates over their calls to defund police department nationwide, Miyares offered an additional layer to the conservative’s pro-police, anti-crime messaging. The message was simple but powerful – step one: find a progressive prosecutor. Step two: make them famous.

“It’s one thing to talk about defunding the police,” the attorney general said, “But when you can actually point to real examples of some of these far-left ideologues that have a criminal-first, victim-last mindset, it is visceral.” This way, constituents “see it and feel it.” Miyares told Republicans that they “absolutely have an opportunity.” All they needed to do was follow his lead, “to highlight every single far-left special-interest prosecutor that has been elected in your state.”

“Make them the face of Democrats on police and crime,” said Miyares. Miayres has fulfilled campaign promises by targeting prosecutors who oppose cash bail and advocate for lessened sentences for repeat offenders.
