State Budget Update from Richmond

By WMAL.com

Following a session in which the Virginia General Assembly failed to pass a state budget, Governor Glenn Youngkin has called legislators backs to Richmond in order to finalize a deal to fund the state for the next two years. While negotiations have advanced, the two chambers in the General Assembly are still yet to find consensus on package supported by both parties.

Breathing some hope into what has been a drawn-out budget negotiation process was Delegate Terry Austin (R-Botetourt Co.), who told WDBJ7 that he believe the House and Senate are nearing an agreement. Austin continued, “I can tell you that we’re very, very close in having a budget. The larger items that were in contention have pretty much been worked out. And we’re pretty much finished with those issues. We’ve now just got a few minor things we’re working on. And upon completion of those we’ll be ready to get back to business.”

Governor Glenn Youngkin has continued to apply pressure to the legislature urging them to finalize a deal. “There are so many critical funding streams in our budget that must be passed to get to work…” Youngkin said. “We must get this done now. Virginians have waited long enough,” said Youngkin.
