Fairfax County casino bill could be reintroduced in 2024

Julia Eisen – WMAL News | October 13, 2023

A Virginia lawmaker is betting on Tysons as the best location for a new casino.

The pandemic left Tysons deserted, with many offices buildings still vacant. Republican Delegate Wren Williams says a casino would bring a new life to the area.

“Additional tourism, additional entertainment for younger generations and also tax revenue,” Del. Williams told WMAL News.

Legislation to bring a casino to Northern Virginia has previously been proposed by state legislators but was withdrawn due to concerns from residents and some elected officials.

Del. Williams assures that any future legislation and contracting will be top tier to try and prevent crime.

“This is going to be a very high quality resort,” Del. Williams said.

Del. Williams argues that the Silver Line extension connects the District, Tysons and the Dulles International Airport together, which will bring in crowds to a casino.

Casinos are estimated to bring in $600 to 700 million into a region, according to Del. Williams.
