Virginia campaign numbers ramp up ahead of election

Julia Eisen – WMAL News | November 2, 2023

Candidates running for seats in the Virginia legislature are raising staggering amounts of money ahead of Tuesday’s election where every seat is up for grabs.

Campaign finance reports show candidates raised millions of dollars in October alone. Virginia Political Analyst, Bob Holsworth, tells WMAL News these numbers show how critical this election is.

With every seat open, the stakes are high for Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin. If Democrats are able to keep control of the Senate and win back the House, it isn’t good news for the Republican governor.

“It will be seen as a real political blow to Glenn Youngkin,” Holsworth told WMAL News. “It’ll show that he couldn’t translate his popularity into a Republican victory in the assembly.”

Candidates are centering in on many issues for their campaigns including tax relief, education and crime. Some local Northern Virginia races are almost solely riding on the future of data centers in neighborhoods.
