Trump Says He Found Buyers Needed for TikTok to Avoid Shutdown

(The Washington Times) — President Trump said Sunday he has found new buyers for TikTok needed to avoid the U.S. government blocking the Chinese-founded app’s usage in America.

Mr. Trump previously extended a June deadline for enforcement of restrictions on TikTok to September.

The latest delay in enforcement is the third Mr. Trump has issued, which blocks a law intending to force TikTok to separate from its China-based ownership ByteDance.

Mr. Trump told Fox News on Sunday he has found prospective purchasers of TikTok.

“We have a buyer for TikTok, by the way,” Mr. Trump told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo. “I think I’ll need, probably, China approval, and I think President Xi [Jinping] will probably do it.”

Mr. Trump said he would reveal the buyer in approximately two weeks.

When Ms. Bartiromo suggested the buyer was an American tech company, Mr. Trump said the buyers were “a group of very wealthy people.”
