WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Enjoyed your holiday weekend? Good! Now get back on track.
Safe Track, that is. A new line segment shutdown begins tonight between National Airport and Braddock Road metro stations, and as a result passengers should expect even more congestion around the airport.
The closure will begin at 8:00pm on Tuesday evening.
Any commuters attempting to ride the yellow or blue metro lines through the closure can take a Metro shuttle bus to and from Braddock Road.
This installment of the yearlong Metro Safe Track program is one of the shortest legs of the rapid repair effort – only seven days, between July 5 and July 11. Other surge projects are estimated to be completed in 12 to 18 days. There are some timeline outliers, though, such as a 42 day continuous single tracking project between Vienna and West Falls Church metro stations along the orange line.
Metro officials ask that commuters avoid the airport area, as to not further stress the system at this juncture.
The next surge project will cause another line segment shutdown between Pentagon City and the National Airport metro stations between July 12 and July 18.
