WASHINGTON — (WMAL) The last SafeTrack surge will shut down Shady Grove and Rockville Metro stations from Saturday, June 17 and Sunday, June 25. Red Line service on the rest of the line will be a bit less frequent, with trains coming every 4 to 8 minutes instead of 3 to 6 minutes. Other lines will not be impacted.
Riders can take free Metro shuttle busses between Shady Grove and Twinbrook. People who normally park at Shady Grove or Rockville are encouraged to drive to Twinbrook, White Flint or Grosvenor and park at any of those stations and take Metro from them.
The SafeTrack program, which started last June, ends for good June 25.
“The goal here is to never have to do another one of these emergency maintenance projects again,” said Metro spokesman Dan Stessel.
Moving forward, Stessel said Metro would only like to close stations for preventative maintenance, not emergency repairs. Work will happen during overnights and weekends and will only be done during rush hour times when it is absolutely necessary according to Stessel.
