FALLS CHURCH, VA — (WMAL) And so it begins.
Although the program officially kicked off over the weekend, Metro’s SafeTrack initiative was put to its first weekday test on Monday, with trains single-tracking on the Orange and Silver lines between East Falls Church and Ballston.
Few problems were reported with the changes early Monday morning. WMAL’s Steve Burns reported from West Falls Church that traffic was light as the first several trains cycled through the station there. Metro employees were standing by with pamphlets to help commuters negotiate the changes in the program’s first “safety surge.”
Now through June 16th, weekday service will operate as follows in the affected area:
- Orange Line trains between Vienna and New Carrollton will operate every 18 minutes
- Additional Orange Line trains will operate between Ballston and New Carrollton only every 6 minutes during AM/PM rush and every 10 minutes during midday and evening
- Silver Line trains will operate every 18 minutes
- At 10:00 p.m. all trains will operate every 20 minutes
