WASHINGTON–Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is announcing new guidelines and restrictions for the state in regards to the Coronavirus.
Here are some of the highlights:
Social Distancing
- Emergency order to close all bars and restaurants, effective 5:00 p.m. today. Drive-thru, carryout, and delivery service will still be allowed.
- Prohibiting social, community, religious, recreational, sports gatherings, or events of more than 50 people in close proximity.
Health Surge
- Physical Capacity: Making up to 6,000 hospital beds available, in part by reopening closed hospitals.
- Personnel Capacity: Activating the Maryland Medical Reserve Corps–a force of 5,000 dedicated and trained medical volunteers. 700 have already been activated.
Relief for Residents and Families
- Utilities: an order to prohibit electric, gas, water, sewage, phone, cable, TV, and internet service provider companies from shutting off any residential customer’s service, or charging any residential customer late fees, during this state of emergency
- Evictions: an order to prohibit Maryland courts from ordering the eviction of any tenant during this state of emergency.
- Meals: We have expanded our capability to provide 3 meals a day and a snack to students who need it while schools are closed. We have 138 distribution centers already up and running.
Activation of Additional Personnel
- The governor is activating 250 Maryland State troopers of the Mobile Field Force.
- 1,000 Maryland National Guard soldiers and airmen have been fully activated, and another 1,200 are currently on enhanced readiness.
