The Pentagon on Friday released its seventh collection of UFO files since President Trump issued an executive order early this year directing federal agencies to identify and declassify records associated with unidentified anomalous phenomena, or UAPs.
The documents in the latest release consist of newly declassified records dating back to the 1940s.
The most recent file comes from a sighting in June over an unidentified but sensitive national security site in the West.
“The reporting individuals stated that a triangular object rose vertically, remained stationary, and then banked and descended into a canyon,” Pentagon officials said in a statement. “It records their descriptions of the object’s shape, color, apparently thermal signature, perceived lack of conventional propulsion features, and absence of an associated audible signature.”
One of the earliest possible UFO reports in the latest batch came from December 1956, when an Air Force pilot spotted an unidentified aerial blinking light over Guam. The report noted that a lighted weather balloon had been launched before the sighting. If the balloon had malfunctioned and remained at a relatively low altitude, it could explain the reported object.
However, the officer who prepared the report didn’t regard the balloon explanation as sufficient unless that theory could be proved.
None of the files show any conclusive evidence of UFOs. The Pentagon is putting together the next batch of reports. They’re available at War.gov/UFO.
