Alfie Evans parents cannot take sick toddler to Italy
The 23-month-old’s life support was withdrawn on Monday after the court ruled Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital could end his care.
Tom Evans and Kate James wanted to move their son to a hospital in Rome.
Mr Justice Hayden said: “This represents the final chapter in the case of this extraordinary little boy.”
During the hearing at Manchester Civil Justice Centre, he said the best Alfie’s parents could hope for was to “explore” the options of removing him from intensive care either to a ward, a hospice or his home. [Read More]
Puppy power on display in Annapolis as Gov. Hogan signs animal bills and crime, gun legislation
Puppy politics were on full display at the State House Tuesday as Gov. Larry Hogan signed three animal-friendly bills including a ban on so-called “puppy mills.”
The pet-related measures were among 207 bills that the Republican governor signed in Annapolis on Tuesday — including new gun-control and crime-reduction laws that are expected to factor into his reelection bid this year.

VA secretary pick Ronny Jackson’s confirmation hearing delayed, amid conduct questions
The Senate has delayed its confirmation hearing for President Trump’s pick for Veteran Affairs secretary amid growing questions about nominee Dr. Ronny Jackson’s past conduct and ability to manage the agency.
The New York Times reported that he’s accused of overseeing a hostile work environment as White House physician, drinking on the job and allowing the overprescription of drugs.
The postponement was confirmed to Fox News late Monday night by South Dakota Sen. Mike Rounds, a Republican member of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. The panel had been scheduled to hold the hearing Wednesday. [Read More]
Trump’s ‘fake news’ fight has helped media ratings and readership
Surprise firings, criminal investigations and vague statements that have world leaders scratching their heads has turned President Donald Trump’s administration into political theater.
And the media – one of Trump’s favorite go-to targets- is reaping the benefits. Experts expected media ratings to normalize after the election when the NFL and other popular TV shows started to air. That’s clearly not the case.
