WASHINGTON (WMAL) — Dominion Power is considering five routes for a 6 mile, 230 Killowatt line between Gainesville and Haymarket. But for many residents and county officials, there’s only one viable option.

“It runs along 66 and more importantly, it’s underground,” Prince William County Supervisor Jeanine Lawson says she’ll vote for a resolution tonight urging Dominion to list the that route as the preferred option when the power company seeks the go ahead from their state regulator.

Dominion Power spokesperson Chuck Penn told WMAL the company will submit an application for the power line to the State Corporation Commission in a few weeks. The application will include its internal analysis on feasible routes, and then the SCC will decide which route should be built.

“We certainly respect the views of the residents who live in that area, and hopefully a route can be determined by the State Corporation Commission that has the least impact on the community,” Penn said.

The proposed power line is reportedly being built to serve a data center for Amazon.
