CAMP SPRINGS, MD — (WMAL) Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland is having an emergency drill on August 13th to prepare for the September 19th Air Show.

Residents of Prince George’s County who live near the base should expect an increased number of emergency vehicles, including ambulances and helicopters in the area from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Sirens and announcements will also occur throughout the day, but Laura McAndrews, 11th Wing Media Relations Officer, said that there would not be a real emergency.

“It’s actually an exercise to test base emergency responders and off base emergency responders,” McAndrews said.

The Andrews Air Force Base is hosting an air show on Septermber 19th, and the drill is meant to test emergency response systems if a plane crashed during the event.

“At the air show, we’re all about preparedness,” McAndrews said.

September’s air show is free to the public and will feature the Thunderbirds, the U.S. Air Force official flight demonstration team.
