MORNINGSIDE, MD — (WMAL) A tractor trailer traveling on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway early Friday morning drove off of an overpass and dropped onto the Suitland Parkway below, killing the driver. No other vehicles were involved.

The impact splintered the truck, which was carrying paper products. There’s no word yet on what caused the truck driver to lose control of his rig.

Police and fire units have closed eastbound Suitland Parkway between Pennsylvania Avenue and Forestville Road, and it’s expected to remain closed for some time. The Beltway does have all lanes open, but with heavy police and fire department presence, you can expect slowdowns through the area.
