Critics slammed President Trump today for tweeting out a choral rendition of his campaign slogan “Make America Great Again” for Independence Day.

Trump was accused of “politicizing the holiday” by focusing on his campaign slogan versus a unifying, American message. However, critics of the president seem to forget that his predecessor, President Barack Obama, would regularly use the occasion of Independence Day to promote his political agenda.
Beyond politicizing the holiday by exploiting it for his own political purposes, Obama also re-framed arguments against his policies as being against the very idea of freedom and independence celebrated on this American holiday.
