Listen: Two great callers talk ‘Spitball’ Haiti with Chris Plante

Today on the Chris Plante Show, Chris talked about Trump’s ‘Spitball Countries’ controversy, and we had some great calls, but two really hit Chris as great calls and he wanted them posted online for people to share.
Our first call of the day was Dave in Virginia who had adopted children from Haiti and had some experience in the matter

When I heard the description last night on the news, the first thing I felt to myself was ‘well that sounds kind of familiar!’  My kids are adopted from Haiti and I’ve been there ten times, and I remember the first time I was there, the lady who runs the orphanage who’s been down there for 30 years, an American lady she said, when describing the country, she said ‘This place is a Hell Hole.’  And I was kind of surprised to hear her say it at first, but then she started to explain why and I began to understand.

80% unemployment, the average wage is 2 dollars a day, there’s no public school system, there’s really no good health care system, people are extremely desperate -desperate to get out of there, and that’s what it is!  It’s a very, very, unfortunately broken country.  Very desperate.  Trash everywhere.  The place where my kids come from, which is the poorest part of Port Au Prince, they literally feed kids dirt cookies – cookies made out of dirt, to satiate their hunger because they have so little food.

There’s plenty more in that clip, it was a great call with a lot of information.  Now our Last call of the day was also great:

Al in Virginia had served in the military and he was part of a division who invaded Haiti in 1994 (and also spent some time in Somalia) and is from Nicaragua originally.  He had some great information and Chris loved his story, a real American story if ever there was one!

And for fun here is the montage we put together of Media glee over getting to use swear words on TV last night:
