Senate Intelligence Committee approves CIA nominee Gina Haspel (Washington Examiner)

The Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday voted 10-5 in favor of Gina Haspel to be the next director of the CIA, setting up her expected Senate confirmation later this month.

“Gina Haspel is the most qualified person the president could choose to lead the CIA and the most prepared nominee in the 70-year history of the agency,” said Commitee Chairman Richard Burr, R-N.C. “I’m pleased to see the committee favorably report her nomination to the full Senate, and I look forward to her swift confirmation.”

ABC set to dial back political humor from pro-Trump ‘Roseanne’ next season (Fox News)

ABC’s “Roseanne” is one of the few popular television programs to feature a pro-Trump character, but conservatives shouldn’t get used to seeing similar ideology on the sitcom for much longer.

Dungey said that the show will lean away from politics next season during a conference call with reporters as part of the network’s upfront presentation. Upon learning the news, conservative media icon Matt Drudge tweeted, “Corporate cannibals stripping Roseanne of her fun.” [Read More]

Likely Democratic 2020 presidential contenders follow millennials in embrace of socialist idea (The Washington Times)

You would think any political theory that resulted in the deaths of 100 million people would have been discredited by now, but socialism is back in style.

The bicentennial of Karl Marx’s birth has coincided with a groundswell of support for the communist theorist’s ideas. Dozens of Democrats running for local office have embraced the socialist label, and national party leaders are advocating bigger government as they jockey for position on the left wing of the party.

Marion Smith, executive director of the nonpartisan Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, said both parties should be able to get behind opposition to Marxism. [Read More]
