President Trump unloads on Comey, ‘scum on top’ of FBI a day after damning IG report’s release (Fox News)

President Trump broke his silence on the scathing inspector general’s report with a vengeance Friday, first tweeting that the FBI boss he fired was the “worst” in the bureau’s history, then crashing “Fox & Friends” for an impromptu interview where he ripped the “scum on top” of the Obama-era bureau and said the IG “blew it.”

The president’s comments came a day after the release of the report, which was the result of an 18-month-long investigation by DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz. Trump said the report, which found ex-FBI Director James Comey was insubordinate, showed Trump was justified in firing him.

“The IG Report is a total disaster for Comey, his minions and sadly, the FBI,” Trump tweeted early Friday. “Comey will now officially go down as the worst leader, by far, in the history of the FBI. I did a great service to the people in firing him. Good Instincts. Christopher Wray will bring it proudly back!” [Read More]

The Justice Department inspector general’s damning report on the mishandling of the Hillary Clinton investigation by fired FBI Director James Comey details the alarming degree of political bias against Donald Trump and in favor of Clinton that has “cast a cloud” over the bureau’s handling of not only the Clinton investigation but its actions involving Trump. Despite revealing even more evidence of anti-Trump bias within the bureau than previously known, however, the IG concluded that there was not clear “documentary” evidence of political bias “directly” impacting the bureau’s “specific investigatory decisions” involving Clinton. Ex-Trump campaign boss Paul Manafort sent to jail as judge revokes bail after witness tampering charge by special counsel Mueller (CNBC)

A federal judge Friday revoked the $10 million bail of ex-Trump campaign chief Paul Manafortand ordered him to jail because of witness tampering charges lodged by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Manafort’s detention at the hearing in U.S. District Court in Washington, DC, came a week after he was charged in a new indictment filed by Mueller accusing him and a Russian associate, Konstantin Kilimnik of conspiring to influence the possible testimony of two people.

Mueller’s team in an earlier court filing said that Manafort’s “obstructive” conduct, which included reaching out in the past several months to the potential witnesses with encrypted message apps, “instills little confidence that restrictions short of detention will assure Manafort’s compliance with the court’s orders and prevent him from committing further crimes.” [Read More]

GOP wants Trump in 2020, more popular than Obama, JFK, Reagan (Washington Examiner)

Republican voters are demanding that President Trump run for re-election in 2020, the latest evidence that support among his backers is stronger than it was for nearly every recent president.

And Democratic pollster John Zogby said this week that only former President George W. Bush was more popular than Trump among his base going into his first mid-term election, and he had just launched a war against America’s 9/11 attackers. [Read More]
